I am doing a diaphragm design and Profis is giving me different capacity compared to Vulcraft's website. Why are Profis's values different? The shear stiffness, G', matches for both of the designs from Vulcraft, but shear capacity is different.
Hi Michael,
There could be a couple reasons for the discrepancy. First, it appears the two reports are referencing two different design standards. The PROFIS Engineering calculations are using AISI S310-20 and Vulcraft is using AISI S100-16.
Additionally, PROFIS Engineering uses ICC ESR-2776 for calculations, which is based on full-scale cantilever diaphragm testing by combining the X-HSN 24 and Hilti SLC fasteners together as a system to derive these values. Both methodologies of diaphragm shear calculations are considered valid, with the Nucor-Vulcraft calculations being more simplified and direct, and the Hilti method relying on direct test evidence supported in the ICC-ES Report.
Regards,
Dani
