For Kwik Bolt TZ2 anchors, does Hilti specify a maximum allowable hole size in the fastened portion, or is this outside the scope of the ESR?
Specifically, is a 13/16" diameter hole in a steel ledger angle acceptable for a 5/8" Kwik Bolt TZ2 installed in masonry per Hilti requirements? For oversized holes in the fastened steel portion only, are there any washer requirements or recommendations?
Hi,
Thank you for reaching out. The values published are based on testing that used the exact published fixture hole diameter in ESR-4561. When using a larger fixture hole diameter, there could be concerns with the fixture pulling over the washer, which could reduce the capacity of the anchor. Additionally, if the anchor is at a high utilization, the engineer could consider specifying a double washer or could consider using a plate washer with an 11/16” diameter hole that covers the 13/16” diameter fixture hole.
Ultimately, all design decisions (including anchor selection) are at the discretion of the Engineer of Record (EOR) on the project.

Katelyn
