We're designing the post-install connection. We have a limitation of a maximum of 8.375" from one edge of the wall and the wall thickness is 8". The main failure is Concrete Edge Failure in direction-x (4.3). In option 1, you can see the parallel,V is 2.00. However, the file I attaches has a larger edge distance but the parallel,V is only 1.
Could you please take a look at my program or report and let me know the reason why? Thank you!
Hi Shirley,
Information on the modification factor for parallel edge can be found here on page 187 of the PROFIS Engineering Design Guide. Additionally see this past Ask Hilti response which includes a resource that details how resultant shear loads are calculated in PROFIS Engineering/Anchor.
The PROFIS Engineering software is limited to a strict interpretation of the ACI 318-14 Chapter 17 anchoring-to-concrete provisions. Thus, the software is unable to determine on its own if a large edge distance should be considered finite or infinite. If an edge distance is defined in the software, PROFIS Engineering will evaluate the appropriate ACI 318-14 provisions accordingly. Whether or not to consider an edge distance large enough to be considered infinite is typically based on the engineer’s interpretation of the ACI 318-14 provisions. If a design’s resultant force is not “truly parallel” to the parallel edges, the software will evaluate it using the perpendicular provisions provided in ACI 318-19 Section 17.7.2.1(a) or Section 17.7.2.1(b).
