Dear Staff:
I met a situation that I need to get design works for Vu=25k with 6" eccentricity and 31440 lb-in torsion and 2.5 kip wind loads on a connection. The limitation is the wall only 16" wide and the connection is centered. The concrete breakout failure in Shear is the mean failure.
Would deeper embedment could help to make the design works? (The wall depth is 98-in. And the reinforcement for the wall is #4@10" OC
Thank you!
Hi Shirley,
Engineers typically utilize Hilti’s PROFIS Engineering software to perform anchor calculations and explore varying design parameters, such as embedment depth. There is not a typical response for the outcome that an increased embedment depth may have. Other design conditions must continue to be considered when determining the governing failure mode and design utilizations.
Please reference this Ask Hilti response for additional information on ACI 318 embedment limitations.
Best,
Sam
