I am working on San Francisco International Terminal 3 landside facade rebuilding. There are existing seismic joints along the perimeter of new facade. The joints jog around the existing steel columns that need to be protected. We are proposing FB-22 (by Construction Specialties) fire barrier at 3 1/2" seismic joint between the steel column and existing roadway structural slab and spray-on fireproofing at column surface. How should we treat the transition (or gap) between the floor fire barrier (FB-22) and spray-on fireproofing to achieve the continuity of steel column fire-rating (3 hours in Type I-A building)?
