I'm looking for some input into whether the Fire Finish 120+ Steel protection spray can be applied as a 3-hour rated coating to cast iron columns? I am working on a reno of a pre-war manufacturing building in lower Manhattan and have a pair of cast iron columns formerly wrapped in 1hr gyp. and encased in old, cementitous fire proofing that the owner would like to expose. Attaching an image of the current columns with the gyp enclosure removed. Note the timber colums on either side of the fireproofed iron column supporting a discontinuous timber beam above. The iron colums in question support the columns above going up to the roof. It's a very strange hybrid system.
Hello we would need to look at this in an Engineering Judgement (EJ). We would need to know the size of the beams along with the thickness.
