Can I use 3/4 XU PAFs for my perimeter Light Gauge Track?

X-U Universal Technical sheet has: Table 9. Ultimate and allowable shear loads for attachment of perimeter track to 4000 psi normal weight concrete with XU starting at 1" lengths and lists values. I need to use 3/4" to not penetrate to PT strands. Can these be used for lesser values?

Hi Kayla,

Thank you for reaching out. As you mention, per the Product Technical Guide Excerpt for the X-U, there are data tables specific for the application of perimeter track to normal weight concrete (Table 9) with a fastener length of 1“ and 1-1/4“. To use this specific data from that tables, the length of the X-U would have to match. However, earlier in the document there is generic data on installation into normal weight concrete (Tables 1 and 2) that includes the shorter 3/4“ embedment you are looking for. This, in tandem with the evaluation of the fixture failure modes for tensile pullover and shear bearing (Table 8), could also be considered by the Engineer of Record.

Ultimately, the decision of fastening is at the discretion of the Engineer of Record on the project.

I hope this helps! For additional inquiries, please reach out directly to hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com.

Kind regards,
Mia
