Can adhesive anchors be installed in the same exact location as a previously installed adhesive anchor after the extraction of the existing anchor?

Hello.
Can adhesive anchors be installed in the same exact location as a previously installed adhesive anchor after the extraction of the existing anchor?

A design I am reviewing is showing an existing 1-1/4" adhesive anchor with 12" embed, which is going to be extracted (not sure how) and a new 1-1/4" adhesive (HY-200) anchor will be installed in the exact location of the extracted anchor. Is this allowed for Hilti systems and has this ever been done. Please provide any technincal reference or guidance on how this can be done if acceptable.

Hi Carlos,

The engineer on the project could consider core drilling to remove the existing adhesive anchor and install an adhesive anchor per the Instructions For Use. Keep in mind, not all adhesive anchors have technical data for installation in core drilled holes. Another alternative is relocating the adhesive anchor and treating the existing Kwik Bolt as an abandoned anchor bolt. Hilti does not have test data regarding the effects of abandoned anchor bolts near a newly installed mechanical or adhesive anchor. For more information, please refer to this previous response.

Regards,
Ashley
