Referring to ACI318-19, it appears critical edge distance is a function of effective embedment, but looking at the TZ2 ESR this does not appear to be the case. For example, two different diameter bolts with the same embedment (5/8 and 3/4" @3-1/4" embedment, for example) have significantly different critical edge distances. Additionally, Cac decreases as the embedment increases for multiple anchors. How are these calculated? I am asking because I am trying to calculate breakout strengths for embedment depths outside the PROFIS selected depths and need to be able to calculate this value.
Hi Tom,
The critical edge distance for the KB-TZ2 for the various diameters and embedment depths found in ESR-4266 is determined through testing. If you decide to install the KB-TZ2 outside of the tested embedment depths for a specific diameter, that will be up to the engineering judgement of the Engineer of Record for the project.
