Attaching metal element to previously intumescent painted metal item
Contractor may have to attach metal structural item to a previously intumescent painted item. Does the intumescent paint need to be scraped off to get to bare substrate/then reapplied afterwards at said location or can it be compressed/attached on top of?

Hi Ruth,
The intumescent should be removed before installing a fastener. In the event of a fire, the intumescent could affect the connection if left in place.
