According to the Anchor Fastening Technical Guide Edition 22, some adhesive anchoring systems limit the number of anchors to one per masonry cell. However, when using Hilti Profis Engineering to verify these anchoring systems, there is no note indicating the limitation of one anchor per masonry cell. Does this imply that if it is permitted in Profis Engineering, the configuration can indeed be implemented?
Furthermore, I would like to clarify that the limitation of one anchor per masonry cell does not apply to mechanical anchoring systems.
Thank you.
Hi Anna,
It depends on what is the base material, anchor, and the design methodology you are using. I can't speak on the limitations for every type of anchor and base material. For example under ASD design using HIT-HY 270, you are limited to 1 anchor per CMU cell for grout-filled CMU and 2 anchors per cell for hollow CMU (both of these are anchoring into the face of the wall.) Under LRFD design with HIT-HY 270, you are limited to 8" spacing, which would limit you to one per masonry block. PROFIS Engineering should populate an error message accordingly (see snippet attached of an example.) If you believe that PROFIS Engineering is allowing something outside of our technical data, please email the .pe file to hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com so we can take a look. Additionally, the best place to look for this information is either in Hilti's technical data or the ICC ESR for each respective anchor. If you need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out to Hilti's engineers at 877-749-6337.
Regards,
Dani
