Anchor Plate Dimensions

What is the basis of design or ACI code reference used by the program for anchor bolt distance to edge of anchor plate and anchor bolt spacing?

Hi Annette,

PROFIS Engineering classifies the minimum edge distance of an anchor to the edge of the steel plate it is fastening down through the “Anchor Plate Factor,” per AISI S100. Regarding the edge distance requirement, Section E.42 of AISI S100 states:

the distance from the center of a fastener to the edge of any part shall not be less than 1.5d"

Since 1.5 is the default value, the software will provide an error message to the designer if they are violating this section of AISI. However, the designer can use engineering judgment to accommodate their anchor design by lowering the “Anchor Plate Factor” value accordingly. Please note that PE conservatively uses the base plate hole diameter as "d" rather than the anchor diameter. To modify the “Anchor Plate Factor,” the following steps can be followed:

  1. Click on the “Gear” icon next to the name of your file toward the middle of the screen (or navigate to the “Setting” through the three dots next to “PROFIS Engineering” in the upper left of the screen).

  2. Locate the “Anchor Plate Factor” dialog box (or select “Anchoring-to-Concrete” in the main settings and locate the “Anchor Plate Factor” dialog box.

  3. Enter a value less than 1.50 to decrease the edge distance requirement.

Regards,
Dani
