Hi there, we need to drill & epoxy #4 rebar, 5" embedment, into an existing grouted CMU wall. What size drill bit would be best for drilling and what type of epoxy adhesive is required? We also have to drill & epoxy a handful of #5 rebar,6" embedment, into an existing concrete floor. Again, what drill bit size is recommended and type of epoxy adhesive?
I currently have this planned out:
#4 rebar- 5/8" drill bit with HIT-HY 100(CMU WALL)
#5 rebar- 3/4" drill bit with HIT-RE 500 V3(CONCRETE)
Hi Neil,
Rebar with HIT-HY 100 into fully grouted CMU is not permitted. For installations into fully grouted CMU with rebar, you could consider the HIT-HY 270 adhesive anchor. The corresponding drill bit size with a #4 rebar with HIT-HY 270 can be found on page 176 of the Anchor Product Technical Guide. For a #4 rebar size, a 5/8” diameter drill bit is required.
For anchoring into concrete with Hilti’s HIT-RE 500 V3 adhesive anchor and a #5 rebar, a 3/4” diameter drill bit is required as seen in Table 2 page 108 of the Anchor Product Technical Guide.
Ultimately, all design decisions (including final anchor selection) will be at the discretion of the Engineer of Record (EOR) on the project.
