We have a steel column in a CMU wall. The column is sprayed on the front and back side (exposed) with intumescent fire proofing. The sides of the column have the cmu wall built flush to the column. In order not to have to paint the sides that are covered by the CMU wall with intumescent paint, can we use a joint system?

We use WF and HSS shear lugs quite often to get an increased shear (steel) capacity. Would a WF shear lug be considered 2 plates plus a stiffener and a HSS considered 2 shear lugs plus 2 stiffeners?
