What is the definition of solid head joint in reinforced concrete masonry?
ESR's state the anchor's horizontal in plane force capacity is based on a solid head joint. Can this be achieved in any other way than a fully grouted assembly using open ended block?

Hi Brian,
A solid head joint is a head joint in CMU construction employing open-ended units (including lintel or bond beam) that will allow grout to be placed in the head joint area. The head joint in CMU construction employing closed-ended units ( e.g., hollow concrete block) is referred to as a hollow head joint. For more information, please refer to Section 2.0 of the Masonry Anchor Strength Design Guide.
