We are building a Pergola / Trellis 10' X 80' with 10 columns on existing pool deck. The deck is been reinforcing under the location of each column by other company. Our Engineer made the calculations for Wedge anchors, but the Engineer of the Master Project wants to change them for an Epoxy anchors, because the waterproofing.
Hi Juan,
Determination of what anchor to use is dependent on what loading capacities the anchor design needs to meet as well as installation preferences. Adhesive anchors may be able to achieve higher capacities but installation typically requires more steps to follow as compared to an expansion anchor.
To compare capacity and design utilizations and for general design help, engineers typically utilize Hilti’s PROFIS Engineering Suite software to perform calculations based on the specific conditions of the project. This web-based software can be accessed at profisengineering.hilti.com.
For anchor product selection help, please see Hilti’s Anchor Product Technical Guide from Hilti's website. Below are quick links to sections of the Tech Guide:
- Anchor Selection Chart on pages 4-7 - a helpful comparison of Hilti's anchors
- Section 3.2 Adhesive Anchoring Systems starting on page 30
- Commonly considered ultimate-performance adhesive anchors for concrete are HIT-HY 200 V3 (fast cure) and HIT-RE 500 V3 (slow cure)

- HIT-HY 200 V3 Technical Data with threaded rod
- Section 3.3 Mechanical Anchoring Systems starting on page 261
- The most commonly considered expansion/wedge anchor is the Hilti Kwik Bolt TZ2
Ultimately, all design decisions are at the discretion of the Engineer of Record (EOR) on the project.

Emily
