Sustained Load Values less than Design Load Values

Sustained Load Values less than Design Load Values

I am trying to size drill and epoxy anchor rods for a moment frame. When I put in the dead and the wind load I get an error that says "Sustained load values must be less than or equal to design load values and have the same direction." When I remove the dead load the software will run and the design is at 40% of its tension capacity. Why would the software run this calc when only a wind tension force is applied but not run when a dead compressive force and a wind tension force is applied? It seems like the dead load would only be helping in this scenario.

Hi Kyle,

The sustained load applied to an adhesive anchoring system must be less than or equal to the bond strength in tension of
the anchor. This can be found on page 153 of the PROFIS Engineering Design Guide which references ACI 318-19 Chapter 17.

For further assistance, please reach out to hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com.

Ashley

Hi Ashley, I'm getting the same error. The error states, Sustained load values must be less than or equal to design load values and have the same direction. It's not the same as your reply. Even if I reduce my DL (sustained load) to 1 lb, it is still not in the same direction as the Wind Uplift (design load). However, the 1 lb is less than the bond strength of the anchor. Can you please clarify? Thanks

Hi Brian,

This is a current bug in the software. The sustained load should be an independent input and not influenced by the IBC load combinations. The software team has been alerted and is working on a solution, but in the meantime the current work around is to change the sustained load factor within the load combination engine to 0.

Regards,
Emily

Emily, Thanks for the update/reply. Can you please let us know when this bug will be addressed? The Simpson Anchoring software does not have this bug (and is free).
