Minimum slab requirement thresholds - KB-TZ2

Hi,

When my slab thickness is less than the minimum listed by the software, is there a way to reasonably say that the anchor is acceptable considering a reduced capacity of the anchor?
Do you have any testing data that would show a reduced capacity of anchor in a shallower slab?

Hi Parth,

The minimum Hilti publishes is the minimum allowed due to testing. If you were to go below what Hilti has published, it would be up to the EOR to decide and Hilti would recommend performing onsite testing to verify capacity. When the minimum concrete thickness is not met, there is the possibility for concrete splitting to occur during the torqueing process.

Dani

Hi Dani, Thanks for your response. Are there any alternate tests to check the anchors? If the anchors are expected to take only shear loads, do you still need to torque test them and risk cracking the concrete due to tension (caused by torque)?

Hi Parth,

Hilti doesn't have any testing guidelines or requirements. The splitting could occur simply torqueing the anchor to the installation torque, which is required to correctly install the anchor regardless of the loads being applied. It will be up to the EOR on the project to determine what tests, if any, are necessary.

Dani
