I am doing a renovation in a building, and I am saw cutting a slab on grade to have a depressed slab. while saw cutting, I discovered a condition where there is a Kb-TZ2 bolt anchored supporting some framing. When I will be cutting the bolts will not have the min edge distance, however when I pour back again, they will have plenty of edge distance, however the bolt will need to transfer the loads from old concrete to new concrete, is that possible to do if I use proper bonding agents? During the construction process will it be ok to have less than the min edge distance for this bolt understanding that the construction will not last more than a week between cutting the concrete and pour it back again?
Hi Cristian,
Using bonding agents to help the KB-TZ2 transfer the load from the old concrete to the new concrete is outside of Hilti's published testing data as Hilti's testing for anchor bolts is performed in monolithic slabs. This approach will ultimately be an engineering judgement at the discretion of the Engineer of Record (EOR) on the project.
