We have a grout-filled CMU wall that is rated according to the California Building Code Chapter 7 Prescriptive Fire Ratings listed there. All of the UL penetration assemblies I've found require the block to also be UL listed, but there is no manufacturer in the Western US who makes such a thing. Our project's State Fire Marshal has approved using one of the UL assemblies (C-AJ-1240) that says it requires UL listed blocks but the contractor is balking. What do other designers do?
