Battersea Power Station

Anchoring reinforcement for brick and masonry renovation projects

The Project

Battersea Power Station is at the heart of one of central London’s largest and most eagerly anticipated new developments. This 42-acre former industrial brownfield site is in the process of becoming home to a community of homes, shops, cafes, offices and over 18 acres of public space.

The visionary £8 billion project also includes revitalization of the power station itself. The power station is expected to be open to the public for the first time in over 30 years in 2020. The Battersea project will transform this waterfront site into an exciting, authentic and attractive new destination and community for residents and visitors alike.

The Hilti Difference

Hilti field engineers worked with Battersea project leaders to provide technical support at early stages of the project.  Since project teams were required to reinforce 2-ft thick brick walls that contained sporadic cavities within the wall, the teams needed a unique anchoring solution. Hilti team members proposed installing the HIT-HY 70 hybrid adhesive anchor with mesh sleeves. This solution ensured that the injected adhesive quantities in the base material cavities were controlled, thus maximizing effectiveness of the installed anchors in the variable base material.

Hilti account managers also consulted with the Battersea team to find the optimal combihammer for the delicate brick base material. The TE 80-ATC/AVR met the contractors’ needs with unequalled drilling speed and performance in concrete, stone and masonry.
